Often misunderstood, an indulgence is a spiritual gift that, when properly received in the correct state of mind and soul, aid the faithful in their spiritual growth. Indulgences are automatic upon fulfillment of their requirements in accordance with the Norms. No application need be made. Governance of indulgences in the Anglican Rite Roman Catholic Church is under the Patriarchal Penitentiary.
